As some of Europe’s biggest pension funds carry out Citizen’s Assemblies where pension scheme members have a voice in investment and sustainability strategy, Episode 7 of the Transition Tapes Podcast talks with Rob Bauer, Professor of Finance and the Institutional Investors chair at the University of Maastricht, and Director of the European Center for Sustainable Finance (ECCE)
Rob and a number of fellow academics have been at the forefront of research and action on these so-called ‘mini-publics’.
Last week, Nest, the giant UK pension fund with 13.7 million members, said it was in the middle of a pension scheme member mini-public.
The most notable mini public to date was carried out by DetailHandel, the 30 billion euros+ plan for 1.3 million retail workers in the Netherlands, a top ten Dutch pension fund.
PFZW, the Dutch pensions giant, says it is also considering a more democratic approach to sustainability decisions.
Episode 7 | Rob Bauer: Sustainable investing…belief or evidence?
Hear Rob talk about:
→ The series of pilot research projects he’s been leading with big pension funds to see how their members think about sustainability and what they want to do about it?
→ What research says about professional investors and their beliefs on climate in investment decisions.
→ The empirical evidence on investor ‘engagement’ and its value.
→ The commercial impediment to investor collaborations.
Rob plays in a couple of bands, loves history, politics and quirky mystery stories: hear what floats his boat in terms of books, films and podcasts.
